A Family Affair...

We spent last weekend in Birmingham, AL, at UAB Medical Center. Brent's mom received a kidney from her sister-in-law (Brent's aunt) on Friday. I am so-so-so-so happy to report that everybody AND THE KIDNEY are doing great, but man, there were some stressful hours in there. I'm telling you, these past few months have been stressful in our little Hardin house.

Two of the most selfless, strong, kind, caring and loving women I know.

Please continue to keep them both in your prayers. It's definitely not a sprint but a marathon and we are not out of the woods yet.

What's Cooking

RANCH CHICKEN -- this was good even for lunch the next day (not spectacular or gourmet of course).

Combine: 3/4 cup crushed cornflakes. 3/4 cup Parmesan cheese. 1 packet of hidden valley ranch dressing mix. Dip 8 chicken halves in melted butter and then roll in cornflake mix. Place in greased 9x13 pan. Bake @ 350 for 45 min.

SLUTTY BROWNIES --- these were out of this world right out of the oven (they were just good the second day) Luckily, we had people over to watch the football game last weekend to help us eat these, so we are not 300 pounds.

I used a 9x9 greased pan. Layer of chocolate chip cookie dough, Layer of whole oreos (I used double stuff because I'm bad), and then pour over prepared boxed brownie mix. Cook until knife comes out mostly clean. I think it took about 50-55 mins. for mine.

HONEY ROASTED PORK TENDERLOIN -- I made this tonight and it was awesome. Pretty presentation too, but I didn't take a picture. (My aunt Noelle recommended this one at Christmas).

2 pork tenderloins. Olive Oil. Greek seasoning. Worcestershire sauce. Soy sauce ( I didn't have this). Pickapeppa sauce. Honey. 1/2 cup of beer (used what was in the fridge, Michelob Ultra). Preheat oven to 350. Rub tenderloins with olive oil and sprinkle with Greek seasoning. Place tenderloins in a baking pan with sides touching. Drizzle Worcestershire, soy sauce, pickapeppa and honer over each tenderloin. Add beer to bottom of pan for moisture. Bake uncovered 45 min. to an hour. (I cooked mine for an hour exactly, I like to know my meat is done. After it was done I sliced it and put it back in the juices)

The first two recipes were from Pinterest, my new best friend! The third was from Prime Meridian, my most favorite cookbook!

Yay for 10 months

~ wearing 12mth and 12-18mth clothes
~ size 4 diaper, just switched (finishing out our 3s)
~ 4 or 5 bottles a day, 6ozs
~ words: dada, ball, AND said MA-MA the other day---plain as day (Brent heard him too)!
~ Usually eats 3 meals a day. Sometimes he's interested and sometimes he's not. Dislikes--cottage cheese and Mandarin oranges (i think its a texture thing). Loves--Yogurt, bananas, puffs, crackers.
~ Uses a sippy cup really well. Prefers water.
~ Crawling, pulling up, and can cruise along toys and furniture with ease. I predict he will be walking by his first birthday. Oh my gosh, I can't believe his first birthday is in less than two months!
~ Ahhhh, SLEEP! He is finally sleeping through the night again 10-12 hours. We usually put him to bed between 7 and 830 and he sleeps until 6-7am. We I finally did cry it out--it was time. I did not shed a tear throughout the whole process. Go me. One point for the parents (who are still losing by a landslide)! The longest he ever cried was like 25 minutes, but it took a little over a week for him to get the message.
~Naps are another story, he usually takes about two cat naps in the morning and a long afternoon nap (1.5-3hrs) on the couch/car seat/stroller/etc. He will not let me put him down in his crib. And I just can't make myself let him cry it out for naps because they can't do the same at daycare and I don't feel like that is fair to him.
~ Three more teeth coming in right now. His two middle, top teeth and a bottom one.
~ Loves to play peek-a-boo ("where's Hampton? there he is!") and clap.
~ We've had our first sicknesses [pleural] BOO! Our first was 12/28/11 at my Mom's (lucky me, huh?! I'm so glad I had my mom---even more so, because Brent was at the hunting camp) It was an ear infection and "red" throat. Two days later with the help of Ibuprofen, Tylenol, and Amoxicillin he was on the mend. Currently, he has had a nasty cough and stuffy nose for a week. I finally took him to the doctor today to make sure I wasn't missing anything and he gave him some amoxicillin. I really think he is on the mend so I may hold off on starting that. I'm not a big fan of giving antibiotics for everything....I'll have to discuss it with Brent, he's still at work.

My Baby is definitely not a baby anymore. I felt like I was taking his senior portraits today or something! He is truly amazing and the sweetest little kid I've ever known. If another baby is crying, he'll start crying too. He is also a cuddle bug and we call him a little "tree monkey" (thanks to Nina) because he'll just hang on to your neck and hug, hug! Love it. However, that amazingness is also coming with an opinion----and I can see glimpses of a very strong-willed, stubborn little boy with a temper! I wonder where he gets that from?!?! He knows what no means and does not like it! Please start praying for us now, haha!!

Hampton is crawling!

It was either last Thursday or Friday when it became official (at daycare, of course).

Until this week, you really had to coax him to crawl somewhere. However, this morning I sat him down in the den and went to the kitchen---when I turned around he was turning the corner around the couch! Super cute!

I better get on the baby-proofing stuff!

Best Christmas Present Ever: a week of vacation afterwards!

Brent and I were able to spend 10 nights in Mississippi celebrating Christmas with our families. I enjoyed it so much. Until we left Knoxville, which was on the 23rd, I felt like I was chasing my tail the whole entire holiday season. I'm not going to lie, it passed me right by and I feel horrible, guilty and a little cheated. I didn't watch a single Christmas movie. I intend to be very careful in the years to come not to let it pass me by ever again.

I'm Behind (9 months)

You have been quite the little stinker these past few weeks :-) You are no longer content to sit and play for hours....You want to go and get things now, but unfortunately this is proving to be a little on the difficult side. Right now, you can only go in circles and reverse. This leads to a good bit of whining. However, I predict you will be crawling by next month and walking shortly after. You love to stand up.

Sleeping is not going so well. We put you down in your crib and you wake up around 1am. I scoop you up, ~~give you a bottle,~~ put you in bed with us, and then give you a bottle (which you can now hold on your own). I know, parents of the year, right?! This has been going on since Thanksgiving. We figured we might as well not try to remedy the situation since we would be going back to MS for over a week at Christmas. NOTE: we started last night with "cry it out." He only cried 20 minutes and then he was asleep. He woke up a couple of times during the night, but only whined for about 5-10 minutes before sleeping until 730 this morning. Tonight, he is currently crying and it seems to be worse than last night. What is up with that? But, I am sticking with it. Brent and I are in desperate need of a good night's sleep...for the sake of our sanity, marriage and health :-)

I'm pretty sure you are ready for table food and we have tried a few small pieces here and there, but I'm paranoid you will choke...so I tend to stick with baby food, crackers, and yogurt. Blueberry yogurt is your favorite.

Still saying da-da and as of a couple of days ago can say "ball" and you definitely know what it means.

You are definitely not a baby anymore and it is just amazing watching you learn and explore. I'm literally in awe and think you are a baby genius :-)

The nine month photo shoot did not go so well (we took these right before heading back to MS for Christmas).....Therefore, please refer to the Christmas pictures as your 9 month pictures.

I also forgot to mention, his top tooth that was coming in last month....it wasn't his middle, top tooth. It was the next one over (and now the other side, not the middle, is coming through). Yes, his smile is a little "rednecky!"

Poor Hampton was sooo sleepy. We got there two and a half hours before our "picture time," which is a whole story of itself!

My mom is the queen of "Happies." And even if we make fun of her for this sometimes....Who doesn't love a "little happy?" Even if it is say....a heart shaped waffle maker (which was one of her bigger "happies"). Mom, I'm proudly following in your footsteps.

Aren't these perfect for the teacher, mailman, or neighbor on your list. You could fill them with anything....Hershey kisses or golf tees. This particular one is going to our financial advisor. Got to keep the "money man" happy, right?

The Party

I am not a party planner. I ~~have~~ see a ton of ideas and always think to myself, that would be so much fun...but never follow through with them. The main reason...because it is way easier to just show up to a party (worry free) instead of making sure everything is taken care of for said party :-) Another reason is that you have to plan ahead and be organized. We are more of the "same day, let's cook out, good idea, see you tonight" kind of couple!

Well, I finally did it.

The Party: Meet at our house for drinks and snacks. Head to Dancing Bear Lodge for dinner and dessert. In Style, may I add. And then after drinks at our place with fire pit (that part wasn't so much planned).

Hmmm, Mom says there a little kid around here who turned 8 months old the other day....

Yep, I'm 8 months old according to this sticker.

I just don't understand what the big deal is....

I do know all this attention is making me tired!

Seriously Mama...enough.

At 8 months:

~You are just now getting your upper right front tooth (it hasn't quite broken through the skin yet)...which explains your recent fussiness. Toofees are no fun!

~~You are getting good at your pincher grasp. And I think more puffs make it into your mouth these days than onto the floor.

~Still just saying da da da da. You are working on your "B" sound and sometimes it really sounds like you say ball. Just tonight I thought you might be getting closer to Ma Ma!

~Mostly 12month clothes.

~size 3 diapers

~Eats two meals a day. Usually a jar of baby food and either yogurt or oatmeal cereal. You are a great eater!

~Still taking about 5 bottles a day, anywhere between 4-6 oz of formula.

~Love Mickey Mouse Clubhouse

~You do the funniest little panting thing if you are really excited or if your mad you do the panting and squish up your nose....it is hysterical. I love it!

~you also have a "trick." If we stick our tongue out at you and make a sound, you will do it back. Pretty Awesome! You don't do it every time, but we love it when you do :-)

The other week you were the "featured" student at BEEP. Here's what your teachers had to say about you...

I love how they say you're going to be an "American Chopper" when you grow up....It's because you do this funny hand thing when you are excited. It's hard to explain but you have both hands up and out and you do this motion like you are revving up a motorcycle. You have done this since you were about 5 months old.

You are such a joy and it is so much fun watching you grow. I love you more than life itself.

On my Mind at Twenty-Nine...

That's right guys, I turned 29 years old 3 days ago.

I honestly can't believe I'm 29...hence the face!

I felt like 29 was sort of like the long lost birthday. Nothing big. There to just make you feel old. No, I don't think 30 is old---in fact, when I think of 30 it is young and fun. I think 29 is older than thirty for reasons that my mind could never articulate. Anybody out there with me?

Moving on....and I will switch to bullets because of the paragraph before :-)

~~Brent did awesome, he got me a nice new pair of blue jeans and the tall brown boots I was wanting.

~~Note to self, when Brent ask for a list...Make sure he gets one!

~~My dear Husband turns THIRTY on December 1st (for these two weeks we get to be the same age)

~~I am in the midst of planning his 30th Birthday Bash. We are going all out. I can't wait to share!

~~Hindsight 20/20, I wish I would have kept it a surprise.

~~His party is the present :-)

~~I have the best neighbors in the world. Chris didn't realize it at the time, but he was in charge of cooking my 29th birthday dinner...and it was fabulous! Brent had to work until 830 that night.

~~I started using a "time resisting" night cream.

~~The Hardins are adding to the family tree!! Nope, it's not me. Mark and Cassey are due in May and I'm so excited, can't wait to meet this sweet butter bean!!

~~I've got the baby bug again too!

~~I really need to join a gym, but Brent says no.

~~What I really need, is some self-discipline to work out and eat healthy!

You know you're married to a Urologist when:

you realize you're drinking your morning cup of coffee...on the way to work, including a quick stop by daycare (and have been doing so for God knows how many mornings) in a Viagra mug. Cute, huh?

Seriously, we only have like five travel mugs...so this one gets used fairly often...and I've never noticed or stopped to read it until today?

Which leads me to a whole separate post on "Mommy Brain."

IT IS REAL.

I had always heard of "pregnancy brain" and this concept is even medically supported. Something about the lack of oxygen to your brain while you grow your little nugget. Well, this never happened to me....but from the day Hampton was born (more like from the day we came home from the hospital), most of the time I feel like I have lost my mind.

A while back, I went to the grocery store--came home--couldn't find my purse. Could have sworn I left it in the buggy in the parking lot at the grocery store. Rush back to said grocery store---scoured the parking lot, no purse---make a report to the manager---drive home in tears over everything I had lost in my purse, including my phone with all my pictures (this was my biggest concern, all the lost pictures of Hampton)--wondering how I was going to cancel all my cards without a phone. Get home--Purse. is. on. the. kitchen. table.

I have never been a scatter brain, but y'all, I can't deny the fact that 50% of the time I feel like I have completely lost my mind. Really, I do dumb stuff a lot! Do they make medicine for this? Does this get worse with each kid? If so, after my third (yes, I still want four :-) Brent is going to have to check me into the looney bin.

Ole Miss vs. Kentucky

We traveled to Lexington for the game this past weekend. Luckily, we really went just to hang out with Maggie and her family. Mags and I were college roommates. Typing that last sentence just made me feel really old for some reason. Maybe, it's because we both have kids?!? Anyway, we had a great time and it was great to finally meet Miss Kylie and introduce her to Hampton.

Unfortunately, Ole Miss lost...officially making us the worst in the SEC :-( With that title also came the firing of Houston Nutt. I always feel so bad for any coach that gets fired....until Brent reminds me that we pay them millions and they don't even have to work. Sounds like a pretty sweet deal to me. Honestly, I still feel a little bad for him.

May 2011. I am so thankful that Hampton got to meet his "Uncle Bear."
And that we have this picture. This is the last time I ever saw him.

Seriously, I cannot even believe I am writing this. There are no words. I am sad. This last week has been hard. The hardest our family has ever had. Through the tears there have also been smiles, laughs and LOVE (lots of love...Barrier was love). Annie (one of Jenny's best friends) said:
This past week has been the saddest of my life. We lost an incredible person and friend. But through the most horrible sadness I have seen the most amazing strength and love and support shine through. Words cannot describe the sense of peace I know Bear is comforting you with, Jenny. The calm is his arms wrapped around you.

This is true.

So, the only thing I know to do is beg for your prayers. Especially for his wife, Jennifer (my cousin).

7 months

**starting to hold your bottle a little.
**You are still not sleeping through the night, you usually wake up once or twice--its obvious we have spoiled you.
**You love "Mum-Mums" dissolvable rice rusks. Mostly because you can feed yourself these. I try to save them for crucial times such as; when our meal comes at a restaurant, or long car rides, or when I'm trying to get his dinner ready and he's hungry!

You have just lit up our world and we love you more than anything in this world!

The secret is not in the pajamas. (I know everyone had a good laugh at my expense on that one :-)

But it is in the swaddle....

Several people had mentioned this....but honestly, I had not swaddled Hampton since he was two weeks old and just figured he would hate it. I mean, hate it with a passion! WRONG. He loves it. I was scared to post this too soon because I didn't want to jinx it (like I did with the pajama thing, haha), but we've been doing it for several weeks now (even naps at home--daycare isn't allowed to swaddle) and he sleeps sooooooo much better and longer.

Happy 60th, Dad!

I jetted down to Meridian on Friday to surprise my dad at his 60th birthday ~~party~~ family get together! I'm so glad I did...we had the best time and in Dad's own words "this was the best birthday ever."

Hampton stayed in Knoxville with his dad. I seriously had anxiety over leaving him for weeks prior (this was my very first night away from him), but it wasn't so bad!! Brent and Hampton did great and enjoyed the male bonding time :-) I think I might have to get away again sometime soon...just kidding, I really don't want to leave him for another six months, ha!

Where has the time gone?!

Stats:

Weight 17lbs 2oz (50%)

Length 26 1/4 inch (almost 50%, big jump)

Head Circ. 17 1/2 in. (60%)

**The big news first....Hampton is sitting up. He still topples over pretty easy....and we've hit our head a couple of times now.

**Just moved up to size 3 diapers.

**6-7 ounces every 3 hours

**Trying new foods. I think peas are his favorite along with yogurt. I haven't found anything that he just won't eat yet.

** mostly 9 month clothes

**has 2 bottom, middle teeth

**Usually goes to bed around 8 and up at 6. I usually have to get up and comfort him about two times--every night, boo!

**takes a 1 1/2 hour morning nap about 2 hours after he wakes up. And then several throughout the day. Occassionally, we get a 2 or 3 hour nap in the afternoon.

**the doctor did not hear his heart murmur at this check up

**He's a little cuddle bunny and loves to be held. He also thinks I'm pretty funny :-)

**He has gotten a little more of an opinion lately. He'll let you know if he doesn't want to do something!

**We now have a permanent spot at BEEP (his daycare), yea....although, becoming a stay at home mom is sounding more and more appealing :-)

I can't think of anything else at the moment...I'm headed to bed, my mind is mush!

Happy six months to Hampton!! I can't believe it has already been half of a year. We go for his six month check up and shots tomorrow so I will update after that.

The other weekend...I finally cleaned out my closet. I still had things from high school. I'm not kidding.

I tried to abide by these rules:

~80/20, most people only wear about 20% of their wardrobe 80% of the time. So, theoretically you can get rid of 80% and never miss a thing.

I did all this with dreams of a new Fall wardrobe.

I had a "mommy wardrobe" before I even had a kid {shout out to Hampton here-who made me a Mommy, by far the greatest thing in the world}---that consists of yoga pants, umbros, sweatshirts, and tshirts but now that I am a Mom and really starting to feel like a "grown-up" I ~~need~~ want a more "put-together, mature" kind of look to go along with all my "grown up" responsibilities!

Back to my dreams of a new Fall wardrobe...

We have a small problem. I am the worst shopper. Brent will literally send me shopping and tell me I have to spend at least $300 (for example). And what do I do? I come back with one thing that cost me like $15. I know, I have a problem....it basically boils down to the fact that I am cheap. However, I'm ready now to bite the bullet and invest some big bucks into my wardrobe!!

Too bad we are broke as a joke now....and I can't wear formula or diapers since this is where all our money is going!

It's like you knew that our roof was original to the house (over 12 years old) and that there is a very good possibility that we will be trying to sell our house in a couple years after residency. You saved us a crap ton of money, not to mention provided us with a good sales pitch! We also get to have our deck stained because of your frozen balls of ice. I'm not mad that you didn't ding up our air conditioning unit enough to require a replacement because that really would have been asking too much. I was a freshman at Ole Miss. I showed up to my 8:00 English class. I honestly can't remember if we had class or she cancelled class. I think we started class and then heard something horrible had happened and she dismissed us. At this point, I still knew nothing. I walked to the student union for a chicken bisquit (yum). I can remember this vividly...the student union was packed and everyone was standing around each tv watching in silence. This is the image etched into my brain...

The rest of the day was spent in front of the tv....just watching in horror.

Today I'm remembering the lives lost and their families. Also, the heros of 9/11.

I wanted to give an update on "Cry it out" at the Hardin House...

It didn't so much go down :-)

Friday night, I. was. prepared. I gave Hampton his last bottle and put him to bed, in his crib mind you, at about 10:15. Never heard another word from him until he woke up at 6 the next morning. Throughout the whole night I kept checking the monitor and he just kept on sleeping.

I was baffled!

Saturday and Sunday nights, he fussed a little when I put him down but ended up falling asleep for the whole night again...in his crib. Sunday night I had to go in there once around 2am and just put my hands on him and he was back asleep. But hey, I can handle that!

Monday night (the night before we have to go to work, mind you) he went to bed around 8ish. Woke up at 11:30pm and did NOT go back to sleep until 5am....and he was craaannnky the whole time. I am not exaggerating. 11:30 is when I tried to let him cry it out for the first time and I only lasted 30 whole minutes. It was miserable. This is where I should have just held strong....

BUT I aborted the plan and went in and picked him up....his eyes were as big as saucers and he was doing that pitiful breathing thing after you cry really hard. Do you know what I'm talking about? Oh, I felt terrible and vowed not to try that again. Which I know I will if I have to! Anyways, Hampton decided to take his revenge and not go back to sleep for the entire night. Lovely.

Brent and I think by letting him cry that long (and not long enough) he worked himself wide ass awake. So, I laughed at Brent the other night because when we heard Hampton start to fuss on the monitor Brent says, "you better go get him quick." This is because, if you get to him early enough, before he has time to start flailing and really wake up...you can put your hands on him and give him some good shhh's and he will go right back to sleep! Yes, I totally know we are being manipulating by a 5 month old....we are in trouble!

Last night, slept the whole night.

So, I racked my brain trying to figure out why some nights are better than others and I finally figured it out. And I know this is going to sound crazy....but its his pajamas. For the whole week that he slept awful and again on Monday night he was wearing two-piece pj's (for the first time)...that are adorable of course. Last night, we went back to the old trusty one-piece-footed pj's and like I said, he slept the whole night.

So, tonight he is in his good ole trusted footie pj's and we'll see what happens.

**I also took him to the doctor this morning just to make sure he didn't have anything else going on besides teething...like an ear infection or something. He doesn't, just the damn little toofees! We did get a steroid cream for the eczema on his little cheeks. He weighed 16lbs 5oz.

This was in Chattanooga....taking his morning snooze. Just thought I would add it...I love a picture of a sleeping baby especially in a big bed :-)

**Update: 9:20am. Hampton slept through the night, 9pm-7am. I'm standing behind my theory...It's all in the pajamas.

Houston, we have a problem (and other stuff)

Our problem is that Hampton is NOT sleeping....unless he's in bed with us and even then it's not a sure bet. BIG PROBLEM! As soon as I lay him in his crib (I've tried drowsy and fully asleep) within one minute the kid is screaming like someone is pulling his toenails off. He has been such the perfect child and such a good sleeper....until the dreaded little toofees. Yes, there are now two. Both bottom two teeth are now poking through the gums. For the record, I hate those little boogers....and 5 months, that's a bit too early for toofees in my opinion. I do have to say though, Hampton is going to look really cute with those two bottom little teeth!

The pediatrician recommends "cry it out." Ummm....I just don't know. I do realize we have created this monster, because we never let him cry longer than like two minutes...but he has always been a perfect little-self soothing- little angel. Anyways, it is becoming a big problem. We are sleep deprived in the Hardin house and I can barely function. The other night I took off towards his room and ran smack dab {centered my right eye} into the door frame of my room. Yes, it left a mark. And then two days ago, I locked my keys in the car at daycare. Luckily, he wasn't in the car. Also, my throat is getting sore. I am blaming all of this on sleep deprivation and those damn two little toofees! Y'all, I am not my best person in the wee hours of the morning.

In summary, I never thought I would let my child "cry it out" but guys....we are nearing that point. I can barely even function. I'm hoping to take this three day weekend and do a gentle {my} version of the "cry it out" method. The pediatrician said it takes three days to retrain your child.

In other news:

It's officially football season. Go away Summer and come on Fall.

Kelly is hosting a crock-pot-a-looza. I've saved a couple of recipes and can't wait to try them because let's be honest....I'm tired and haven't cooked in what feels like forever but would love a good meal when I get home.

I plan on trying out this one over the weekend:

BBQ Pork

1 (2lb) Pork Shoulder

1 can of Dr. Pepper

1 bottle of BBQ sauce

Rinse pork, pat dry. Place in slow cooker. Add Dr. Pepper. Cook on low 6-8 hours. Drain and shred meat (should just fall apart. If not, continue cooking). Return to crock pot and mix in BBQ sauce.

YUMMO and EASY PEASY!

A very special day...
Hampton was baptized.

Hampton did great...much to my relief! It was the very last day of our week long vacation and for the last two days he was being a lot fussier than normal. I was cursing myself for not planning his baptism on the first Sunday of vacation rather than the last. Come to find out, poor thing was just teething....and I had probably said 100 times "vacation has just gotten him all out of wack." Yep, I was not expecting a little toofee this early....so poor Hampton got no oragel, Tylenol, teething tablets, or even a cold rag (or anything) to suck on. Yes, I FAILED.

So, during the beginning of the service Hampton was fussy so I kept giving him his bottle and then finally switched it out for the paci and he fell asleep. We were called up there and the preacher said some words (I honestly don't recall, because I was so nervous) and just before I had to hand him to the preacher....his eyes popped open. Man, I thought we were in trouble. However, Hamp went to Dr. Phillips without any problems and Dr. Phillips did his thing...sprinkled a little water on his head and then took him down the aisle. Hampton was a perfect angel just looking around. I felt horrible because while Dr. Phillips was actually baptizing him...I had my hand all up in the middle of things trying to get his paci out of his mouth. Number one, because I thought that was a little tacky. Number two, he will spit that thing out really fast once he is awake...and I was having visions of it making a big splash into the baptism font. So again, Hampton was great....I FAILED :-)

(side note: Grandma Phyl bought Hampton's gown which reminds me I need to have the date and his initials monogrammed into it)

We celebrated with a little lunch and mimosas...

Hampton had school pictures the other day. I'm not really wild about any of them, but {of course} we have to buy some...just the smallest package, because I plan to get some better, professional ones done this fall around six months or once he is sitting up good by himself.

It's been a BIG month for Hampton...

**You wear size two diapers.

**You wear 3-6 months and 6 month clothes.

**We started you on rice cereal (sort of, we only fed it to you about 4 times and now we've moved on. We put some in your bottle at night, don't tell :-)

**You've tried sweet potatoes, peas, and applesauce. I think you are going to be a good eater.

**You are getting your first tooth. The bottom left. It has already broken through the skin!

**Sleep REGRESSION....and the only thing I know to blame it on is the above mentioned tooth! You wake up several times a night now. Sometimes, just a paci will solve it, but others you must be held and rocked. The other night we were desperate for some rest so you slept in bed with us...and loved it! But, don't get use to it....because that is not a habit we are going to get in to. As much as I love to cuddle with you, I do Not sleep good. And I need my sleep. Please, start sleeping good again!

Vacation Part II (Chattanooga, TN)

So, the day after we got back from the beach we headed down to Chattanooga to meet Brent's parents and our nephews for some more fun! We hit up the aquarium, incline railroad, and then the boys (excluding Hampton, obviously) went white water rafting on Friday while Phyl, Hampton, and I hit up a few shops!

Vacation Part I (Destin, FL)

We had THE BEST time down at the beach with my family! It was so good to spend that much time with my whole family in one place.

Of note, Hampton had his first plane ride and did awesome, except for the fact that he decided that his one poop a day would be during the short hour and five minute flight~BOTH WAYS. Seriously, it was my biggest fear. We literally have to have a bath after some of his poops, not to mention they are stinky...like grown up, something died stinky (I was not worried about him crying or anything...only that he would decide to poop on the plane)! It could have been as bad as I dreamed it up to be, but luck was on our side. #1-- the flight was only a third full BOTH ways and we had a row of three seats to ourselves. #2-- he pooped BOTH times while he was lying in the seat next to me playing. This is important because if he is lying down it usually stays in the diaper (if not, watch out, because it is everywhere; hints my fear). #3-- I was able to change him on the seat beside me and didn't have to use the teeny, tiny bathroom.

Anyways, enough about poop and on to the good stuff.....pictures!

#1 Buy the Sunday paper and cut the coupons

#2 Use the coupons WITH a sale

Other useful info:

Kroger doubles coupons 50 cents or less (all day, everyday)

clip all the coupons even if you don't think you'll use them

{for instance, I would have never kept a fruit roll up coupon in the past because we don't eat fruit roll-ups...but this week at Kroger they were on sale for 69cents a box--So, I used my 50 cents off 2 fruit roll-ups/gushers/whatever (it was doubled automatically) and got two boxes of fruit roll-ups for 19cents each. And I enjoyed my first fruit roll-up in 20 years tonight!!}

CVS is a little more complicated and I can't decide how I feel about it....

--SOMEONE CAME AND CLEANED MY HOUSE TODAY (can you hear my excitement, I'm so very excited)!
--I've been running and {jokingly} dieting for the last 2 weeks, trying to lose these last 5 (VERY STUBBORN) pounds from pregnancy before our beach trip.
--Yea for a FAMILY (this includes everyone..in laws, outlaws, you name it) beach trip! This has not been attempted in the last 15 years...:-)
--I've been couponing, extremely! I even had a "moneymaker" the other day at CVS. My Kroger savings average about 35% a trip. Brent is worried I'm going to become a weirdo about it. I remind him we are poor, but he is still worried and he probably should be....it's addicting and exciting, Ha!
--I made Taco Pasta last night (with the Ortega Taco seasoning packet that was only 19cents after using coupons). It was good. Boil the pasta. Make the taco meat. Then combine pasta, meat, shredded cheese, chopped Roma tomatoes, and Catalina dressing. Serve hot, with tostitos. Yummo.
--Brent is on call this weekend, Boo!
--The other morning, Hampton woke up with a scratch under each eye, so I tried to clip his fingernails and ended up clipping his little thumb. It was a blood bath and we both cried. That little sucker would not quit bleeding for anything. I thought I was going to have to call Brent to come home and dermabond it. Two band aids finally kept it under control. I felt HORRIBLE. We will only be filing his nails from here on out.

Well, THREE DAYS (tues.-thurs.)

living by candlelight---in the basement (since it was a good 5 degrees cooler down there)--- taking cold showers---and no food in the fridge

WAS ALL WE COULD TAKE...

So, we packed our bags (with all the cleans clothes we had left) and coolers (with a bunch of thawed meat)--then headed to a cabin in the mountains with several families who were also in the dark AND HOT! A very big thanks to the Ferguson's (family friend of the Tapp's) for letting us stay at their awesome place.

We had a great time. Enjoy the pictures...

Restored

Finally after 6 days without power ( after a random storm Tuesday night with high speed winds) it was restored last night around 8. I think God knew that I couldn't take much more, as they were saying it could be Tuesday before we got it back. Let's just say all three of us were a little fussy! No power means....cold showers, EVERYTHING in our fridge is ruined, and we were hot! Not to mention the obvious...no TV, Internet, hairdryer, straightener, garage doors had to be manually lifted, couldn't do laundry which means no underwear, and did I mention we have a three month old :-) So thankful its back on and also that our house was spared from any damage as others in the neighborhood were less fortunate.

He went to bed at 8pm last night and I had to wake him up at 6:45 this morning to get ready for ~~"school"~~ daycare. He did wake up at 5 this morning and I just watched him on the monitor for a good 5 minutes while he squirmed around and let out just a few cries, but he fell back to sleep.

I picked him up at 3 and I swear he knew who I was! I got the best smiles and lots of coos... We came straight home and both took a nap-Hampton was asleep before we even made it to the car leaving "school."

Today I was running on pure adrenaline...here's hoping it lasts the rest of the week because no more short days for me!

Hampton Highlights...

--You eat 4-6oz (pumped breast milk) about every 4 hours. Although, within the next week I am drying up your supply and we will be going with formula ( I am pretty happy about this decision and happy to have made it for 2 full months).

--You follow things with your eyes and started cooing. Sometimes you will even carry on a conversation :-)

--Your little hands are getting more curious. I love how you will open and close them on my back when I'm holding or rocking you.

--You are a great sleeper and always have been (you get that from me). You have been sleeping in your crib in your room since we got back from Easter in MS. We have started a bedtime routine (feed, bath, lotion, pj's, dim the lights, feed again if wants, bedtime). You have been going to bed around 730-8 and sleep till about 4. Then after this is a wild card...sometimes you go right back to sleep, but sometimes you stay up for a couple of hours. If you go right back to sleep you will sleep till about 7ish and then take a "nap" around 9am-11am. Yes, you are the PERFECT child :-) Even if you stay up after the 4am feeding you will go back to sleep around 530 and sleep till about 830-9a....that's been okay for now since I'm not working. Hopefully, we can drop the one feeding in the next two weeks before I go back to work...but I'm definitely not complaining and even if we stick with this I am happy.

-- You are smiling. Your dad says you are smiling a lot, but I disagree! I think you are a more serious baby. You are definitely a content baby.
--Size 1 diaper...about to move up soon I think.

--However, I think you caught the "gas/acid reflux" while in Mississippi last week! I'm not sure what happened, but one night you woke up screaming and you've been a little more fussy ever since ( I can tell your stomach hurts). You are still a very good baby!

--You graduated to the Whale tub for baths and I think you like them.

--When you get excited you do this snort thing and kick your legs!

--You are still going through a bunch of diapers (not as many clothes because I'm a better diaper changer).
--The clouds parted and the heavens sang the other day....because your dad got you into our first choice of daycare...Yahoo! Right now we only have a spot till January but we will cross that bridge when we get there. I feel soooo much better about going back to work now. The big day is June 6th.

We love you more than words....

The Birth (short story, LONG)

Monday morning (3/21/11) I went to work just like normal...feeling just like normal. Absolutely no signs of labor or anything. Around noon I was fixing lunch in the office kitchen when I soaked my underwear! Now, it wasn't like this huge gush or anything but I was pretty positive I had not peed on myself. I called Brent to let him know I thought maybe my water had just broken and then we called the doctor who met us at her office around one. She checked me and couldn't say for certain that my water had broke. That's when I really felt like an idiot thinking I must have really just peed on myself. I went back to work (Brent sent me the sweetest message saying that he believed me) and finished the day...all the while still "leaking" a lot. Brent wanted me to call the doctor again to get checked but I was determined not to be "that girl" who keeps thinking her water broke and really she is just peeing on herself because she is 39 1/2 weeks pregnant! Anyways, once we got home I called our neighbor who is an OB resident to come over....and I explained everything--thinking this could not be normal and I really should have been doing my kegal exercises! Around 7:30pm is when the big gush came...it hit the floor! Of course, I had to have everyone inspect it! We called the doctor again who told us to come on to the hospital before eleven. Thankfully, this is just how I pictured it happening....I had plenty of time to take a shower, shave, dry my hair and finish packing my bags. We ate Subway at my request then headed to the hospital.

Once we got there and I got hooked up to the monitors I was already about 3cm and contracting every 4 minutes although I was in no pain. The doctor started pitocin and I got my epidural all at the same time, thanks Dr. Greg J., (which was not bad at all, hurt less than the IV) ...mind you, I got the epidural before I ever felt any pain associated with the contractions (just the way I wanted it)! Mom got there around 2am and the doctor checked me and said I was only a four. She inserted a catheter like thing to measure the strength of the contractions. Around this time, I was starting to feel each contraction...some hurt as much as a 6/10 (which I really didn't mind because I had rationalized in my mind that maybe if I could feel the contractions it would help me to dilate---the doctor put this notion to rest real quick...so I asked for more epidural). By the way, I think the whole Wong-Baker pain scale is a load of crap and totally useless. Both Mom and Brent were laughing at me during all this because they thought I was kidding. I have to admit it was pretty funny trying to pick a number on that stupid pain scale and adding the face that goes along with it!

Well, more of the epidural did not help and I could not figure it out...I kept pushing my button and everything. There was a moment in time that I thought to myself--what if I am some freak that the epidural just won't take and I'm going to have to have this baby all natural...talk about freak out. That's when I noticed my back was a little wet and made Brent check it out. Then the anesthesiologist resident, Dr. Lally L., took a look and the darn thing had come out too far. That meant.....they had to take that one out and start another one. Yeah, bummer...but again, the epidural really isn't that bad and the second time is not even as bad as the first! After that drama, we all rested a bit...or Brent slept and Mom and I chatted through the night. We might have snuck in an hour or two of sleep. Through all this the doctor has checked me several times and I'm still a four....and I was having beautiful contractions (meaning they were consistent and strong enough). At ten that morning she checked me again and I was still a four but my cervix was "swelling"---basically now I was going the wrong direction and she recommended a c-section. Although she did give us the option to keep laboring since the baby looked great and was not in any distress, but she just didn't think it was going to happen. Her confidence (and knowing her, she is not one to opt for a c-section over a vaginal birth any day) that we needed a c-section made it an "easy" decision to proceed with that.

Throughout this whole pregnancy the thought of a c-section had never crossed my mind so I was a little shocked as was Brent (even though if you know Brent....he use to say he thought I should have a c-section regardless if I could deliver vaginally for years). None the less, it was a little shocking for us both and we shed a few tears, but were extremely excited that the end was nearing and we were finally going to meet our little boy!

Within the hour they were wheeling me back to get ready for the c-section. The c-section wasn't too bad except for three things: 1. I was shaking/shivering uncontrollably and I was not cold. It was the weirdest thing and if I concentrated really hard I could make it stop for just a little bit, but overall it was exhausting and annoying. 2. The dang blood pressure cuff. It went off every three minutes making my arm and hand go numb....on top of all this shaking. Trust me if I had been able, I would have taken that cuff and cut it into a million little pieces then burned those million pieces. I was even asking the anesthesiologist to at least change the setting to every five minutes and I would sign whatever form was needed to make this happen...although he didn't go for it! At one point, the cuff started blowing up and I knew it had not been three minutes....so, I made sure to let him know and that we were not going to get a reading this time....bless his heart, because he was already in the process of stopping it before I even finished my sentence! 3. I was a tad bit nauseous during the whole thing (at one point when Brent was trying to show me our baby...I had to ask him to take him away and put my pretty pink pan back beside me).

So, Hampton James was born at 12:02. After all that labor, he still was not even engaged in my pelvis. He was also tilted at a weird angle and facing up....which means a vaginal delivery would have been pure hell (excuse my language). The cord was also wrapped loosely around his neck which if I would have continued to labor could have been really bad in the end. God was truly watching out for us.

I will never forget the first time I saw him. The doctor brought him over and he was still all curled up in a ball and I remember thinking he looked so big and stalky, but that he didn't resemble anybody...Brent commented on his big lips (and we all know neither Brent nor I have any lips). He also had the funniest cry in the beginning. It wasn't a full blown wail that you think of when a baby is born (I was actually kind of worried in the beginning, thinking at any moment they were going to say that they had to take him to the NICU or something). Brent called him a little "Goose" and it was a perfect description. Finally, he let out a big, strong cry. Funny thing is, he still makes his "goose" noise sometimes and it's the cutest, funniest thing.

Brent got to hold and love on him the whole time they sewed me up. Brent kept asking if I wanted to hold him (obviously the word "holding" is used loosely since I'm lying flat on my back) and in all honesty I did not. It sounds awful...but between all the shaking, blood pressure cuff, and nausea I did not feel up to it. Seeing Brent hold him was good enough for me and let me tell you my heart was full seeing the two of them together. Brent was one proud Daddy (and still is)--brings a tear to my eye! At one point, Brent took Hampton down the hall because he was going to show him off and all the nurses and doctors start freaking out---asking where the baby and Brent were. I said, "don't worry, I trust him, he'll come back." Well, apparently that is almost the same as kidnapping...ha ha, and the whole hospital had heard the story before too long and it became quite the joke!

Finally, they wheeled me back to recovery. I was still a little nauseous but once I got some Coke in me I was good to go (to heck with ice chips) and finally got to really hold my little boy. It was surreal!

One other funny thing---- We had been told I was going to room 329, so Mom and Erinn moved all our stuff there. This included the pages from Hampton's baby book that I had brought with us (for his footprints and first visitors). Well, it ended up that we did not go to room 329, but another room...so all our stuff was waiting at the nurses station. Several hours and a couple visitors later I asked about the baby book pages. We couldn't find them, so Brent went in search of them and a nurse went and looked in room 329 (which had a big pink bow on the door) and came out to inform him that indeed the pages were in there but they were used, ha ha! And yes, the pages were clearly for a boy's baby book. Oh well!

Last thing, I thought it was really funny how everybody kept telling me "good job" or "you're doing good" or "you did great" when in fact I really DID NOTHING. Yes, I did carry him for nine months and that was something....but for the birth I DID NOTHING except lay there and shiver! Also, people comment on how long my labor was with a grimace (about 16 hours), but in all actuality labor consisted of watching the contractions on a screen and chit-chatting :-)

Hampton and I have spent the morning watching The Royal Wedding. Hampton wore his blue, car tuxedo and I sported elegant, red sweatpants for the event (and unfortunately my maid forgot to show up this morning, ha)! As you can tell, Hampton wasn't very interested but I assured him he was watching history in the making and quite a wonderful love story. I also had to tell him to quit crying once because the Queen was arriving and I couldn't go get his paci right then.

thriving ever since. I have to give all the credit to Brent's mom because everyone knows I do

not have a green thumb. Besides watering it for the first two weeks after we she planted it, I

Yea, we got a clean bill of health from the pediatrician this afternoon and the best news of all... he said I no longer have to wake him up during the night to feed him!! Wahoo. We had been told to feed him every 3-4 hours even at night.

Stats (4/14/11):

weight: 8lbs 13oz (60th percentile)

length: 20.5in (50th percentile)

head circumference: 14.8in (50th percentile)

Stats from 3/25/11:

weight: 7lbs 2oz

length: 19in (they measure differently than the hospital)

head circumference: 13.8in

**you sleep in the pack n' play beside our bed

**from the very first day you have been a Daddy's boy (I think you like his deep voice)

**you eat 4oz (pumped breast milk from a bottle) every 3-4 hours

**Newborn clothes are getting a little tight and 0-3 month clothes are a little loose.

**I usually end up changing your diaper 3 times for every 1 time because you like to pee when your naked :-) I get peed on at least once a day. We just moved you up to a size 1 diaper and they are huge on you, but have yet to leak....so that's a done deal.

**Quite possibly the cutest thing I've ever seen is when you grunt and poop (more like an explosion) in your diaper and then lay back all relaxed. It's cute!

**You've probably only spit up 5 times since you've been born.

**When you are awake you are so alert and mostly content just looking around. At first, it was almost freaky and I felt like I should be teaching you math or something because you look so smart. You love to lay in your crib and watch the fishes in the toy aquarium and lay on your Baby Einstein play mat. You are not the biggest fan of tummy time.

**The older you get the more ~~fussy~~ awake you are becoming but are usually easily consolable.

You are such a good baby and your Dad and I love you more than you will ever know. It was an instantaneous kind of love bigger than I could have ever imagined. For the first two weeks I would just cry (hormones :-) because you were/are so perfect. All I want to do is protect you and keep you safe and healthy and I will do my best. You are the best thing that has ever happened to us and we can't wait to watch you grow and your personality develop.

No joke, Hampton rolled over....at 2 weeks and 5 days.

This video was the THIRD time he did it. The first two times I was in shock....babies don't normally roll over till 3-4 months. I'm telling you, we have a super baby on our hands ( I think he might be athletic)!!

I still can't believe he really rolled over....I even thought it might have been three flukes in a row....but yesterday I put him flat on his stomach, hands out to the side and he rolled over again. I have it on video too and I would post it, but it's taking forever for the videos to upload. This time it took a little longer and there was a lot more screaming involved but he rolled over! The secret is all in the legs...his little legs are so strong and he will get them underneath him and then basically kick over.

Hampton's three week appointment is on Thursday so I will be sure to update again after that...

39 weeks

I'm really hoping this is going to be my last post before the big day. People had warned me that the last two weeks go by the slowest----and I'm here to say that is very true! Honestly, I'm not too uncomfortable. I am just ready to hold this sweet boy in my arms and see who he looks like. Until then I am trying to savor this last part of pregnancy (I truly am in awe of our God and the miracle of pregnancy) and sleep!

So, besides freaking out about not having a daycare yet...I was just informed yesterday that people interview different pediatricians before choosing one. Ummm...oops, running out of time. Poor Little Hampton, he's just going to get the first doctor that will accept him (based on friend's recommendations) and then we can always switch if I don't like him/her. Good plan, huh?!

By the way, I'm thinking he will be here by the end of next week!?!?!

Today I am 37 weeks and considered "full term."

Wahoo!!

I honestly can't believe it.

I had an appointment last Tuesday. Everything looked good. I have gained 30lbs. My blood pressure 98/56. Baby's heart rate was around 140 (even though I can tell the nurse just picks a number in the middle because she always says "it's jumping around"). The doc also tested me for Group B Strep and "checked" me. She said my cervix was softening and I was 1cm dilated on the outside and a fingertip on the inside....and she could feel the baby's head "just a little" (that is crazy to me). Basically, everything is on track and my body is preparing to have a baby. She also casually mentioned that she was going to Germany 3 days after my due date. Say what?!? However, she was not the least bit worried because she thinks I will definitely have him by then....Wahoo!! I now go to the Doctor once a week.

I forgot to mention at my appointment two weeks ago they did an ultrasound and he was weighing 5lbs 9oz so an estimated 7-7.5lb baby when all is said and done. I'm thinking closer to the 7lb range. We didn't get any good pictures though.

I can't believe we are so close. On one hand, it feels like it has taken forever to get here and on the other it feels like it has flown by.....it's weird. Now, I just can't wait to meet him. For all my family's sake, I'm trying to have this baby on Spring Break...which would be the week of March 14th! Sounds good to me!! I've started walking everyday in hopes of bringing about labor.

Until then I will just keep waiting and gestating....

Valentine's Weekend

Asheville, North Carolina

We headed over Saturday morning and toured the Biltmore. Next, we explored downtown Asheville...and ended up in a paint your own pottery store (so fun) before heading to dinner at Tupelo Honey Cafe. It was a great little getaway just soaking up the time we have left, just the two of us. Oh, how I love my man!!

Unfortunately, Brent was feeling a little under the weather Saturday night and into Sunday....and was whining about a sore throat, stuffy nose and body aches. His loving and caring wife kept telling him, "you have a cold...you'll be fine, because I just had a cold that lasted about 8 days and I'm eight months pregnant." Low and behold, Monday morning he went to work and tested positive for the stinking flu--Happy Valentine's to Me! I thought I had escaped it since I still felt fine on Tuesday (my OB started me on Tamiflu), but the damage was done and on Thursday I was sure I had the flu but it instead was another, worse than before, head cold---the kind I can't breathe through my nose. Seriously, I've been miserable and don't think I've whined this much my entire life. Today's the first day I've felt a tad bit better....just in time to start the week! I seriously hope I can stay well and enjoy this last month of pregnancy (I love being pregnant--just not pregnant with a cold) before we welcome our little boy into this world because there are still a couple things I'd like to get done.

Brent and I celebrated Valentine's this weekend and had such a wonderful time. I will post pictures soon but I just wanted to recommend the movie Just Go With It (we went on Friday night before heading out of town on Saturday). Although quite predictable, it's hysterical and the best romantic comedy I've seen in a while. Brent and I were rolling in the theater!

(I do realize this is a horrible picture of me...but I just wanted to keep it real!)

weight gain: about 20 pounds (and a little more)

maternity clothes: yes

sleep: i get up to use the restroom anywhere between 3-5 times at night... then there's the trip to the kitchen for a drink of milk (maybe some bread) every other night...plus just rolling over is taking some effort these days! between all that it's halfway decent. still thanking Jesus I can breathe though my nose again!

movement: less kicks and more stretching and squirming around. love it.

food cravings: still nothing weird or out of the ordinary.

what I miss: being able to walk without getting out of breath. going to the tanning bed...kind of strange, but I'm almost translucent and a little sun kissed looked would make me feel so much better!

We are gettting close! Only 8 more weeks!

Here's what he's been up to...

and I truly love every bit of it.

I love this part of pregnancy where you can actually feel his little body parts protruding through. He loves to stick out his little booty on my right side which always gives me a weird feeling in my chest (I think it's because he's compressing my vena cava, Brent thinks I'm crazy) anyways, it sounds kind of scary but its not. The other thing he is compressing is my bladder. No joke, this kid is low. However, I think he is in there good. I'm not having any signs of labor, not even a contraction or two (that I know of) so that's good.

My Worry List:

*Daycare (I'm on a waiting list, but last time I checked I was # 25)

*Breastfeeding

*Choosing a name (talk about an ongoing ordeal)

* Labor, really just the afterwards and the healing. Epidural Please!

*Are we going to have everything we need? Enough onesies, newborn gowns, bottles (will I even need bottles if I'm trying to breastfeed?)

*Breastfeeding (yes, I put this on here twice for a reason)

Last Sunday...

Baby Boy and I along with Megan Jones (she's due about 3 weeks before me) and her sweet, little girl were showered by UTRSA (resident spouse alliance). We got some of the cutest clothes and also some much needed necessities. It has been such a blessing to have these girls in my life. They are people who know, understand, and can sympathize with all the good and bad that comes along with being married to a resident. I hate that I did not get a group picture of everyone.

I loved all the blue and pink, so fun!

Worst week ever!

So, it started last Thursday with a sniffle, sneeze, and slight sore throat. This turned into a full blown head cold, which really isn't the end of the world...except for the fact that I find it impossible to fall asleep if I can't breathe through my nose. I'm not exaggerating, mouth breathing is for the birds and I would rather have to mop and sweep 20 other people's houses (and clean their bathtubs) than try to fall asleep breathing through my mouth. One word, crusty!! I finally caved after 4 days of this and decided to take sudafed (md recommendation) and use Afrin (not so much recommended, but according to the Internet not harmful and with Brent's permission)at night.

And I thought that was bad....

Wednesday morning I woke up at 3:30 with upper abdominal pain followed by nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea...and I can't breathe through my nose!! At 8am I called the OB and informed them I was on my death bed...just kidding, kind of! Anyway, they had me come in and of course I was dehydrated....so I was sent over to labor and delivery triage where they gave me two bags of fluid and some meds. My labs were okay and after a couple hours I finally got to go home feeling a good bit better...just tired.

Luckily, been okay since. I think it was just some 24 hour bug. Several neighbors and co-workers have also gotten it (before me). Now, I just don't have the monstrous appetite I have recently had...but hey it's probably a good thing and the scale will thank me later.

I think it's safe to say...I'm on the mend and headed towards 100%. THANK GOD!! I finally got some good sleep last night and feel like a new person. Good thing, because there is much work to be done around here. I'm 30 weeks and 1 day today! That means only 9 weeks, 6 days till due date. Single digits, can you believe it!!

HORMONES

I consider myself a pretty emotionally stable kind of person. I don't cry a lot, maybe once every 4-5 months. Though, I will say...I do enjoy a good cry. There is something that is so invigorating (for lack of a better word) about a good cry. And by "good cry" I mean lots tears, the runny/watery type snot, and a couple of sobs here and there. It doesn't matter what the reason is for the good cry is....it could be some sad news, hurt feelings, a good movie, or being pissed off....I enjoy (again, for lack of better word) the feeling after. Is this weird?

Anyway, I've been rocking along this pregnancy all fine and dandy...actually not shedding any tears (have I mentioned we are thrilled/happy/ecstatic to be having this little one, so what's to cry about :-)...UNTIL, the last week or two...and in this last week or two I've probably cried 3 or 4 times over ~~silly stuff~~ things that I normally would not cry over.

For example; Brent and I went to Dick's Sporting Goods the other day and I was trying on some Nike workout pants (they so happened to be BLACK) that had a cute/comfy/zipped over my belly/could wear even after pregnancy jacket (that so happened to be WHITE). I was thinking awesome, this will give me something else to wear. I walked out of the dressing room, which is smack dab in the middle of the store, wearing my "new" outfit to show Brent....
B: NO
R: Come again?
B: NO, I don't like the jacket.
R: Seriously, it's perfect. Added a few of the reasons why it is so perfect.
B: NO, its white.
R: I happen to like black and white together....looks gooood.
B: You will spill something on it and ruin it
R: No I won't, I'm a grown up...I should be able to buy white things.
B: You are about to be a new mom and get spit up on it and stuff. NO
R: But I want it
B: NO, you cannot buy a white jacket. Go look for another color.

I already knew there were no other colors in this jacket. So, I just walked back into the dressing room, in the middle of Dicks, and started crying. Silly huh?!

Riding to work the other morning I was listening to the radio and "If You're Reading This" by Tim McGraw came on......and the tears came.

I'm telling you these hormone things are crazy!

And because I'm the bigger person...I'll finish telling you my Dick's story. After I pulled it together in the dressing room. I checked out with JUST the pants and a red Gatorade (I was dying of thirst). Halfway to the car, I noticed it. Right in the middle of my white t-shirt, on top of my bump a dad gum about an inch long, red drip mark. I am not shitting you. I had somehow managed to spill my Gatorade before I even made it to the car. Boy was that embarrassing. Anyway, I thought it was pretty funny and Brent didn't say all the things he could have (or that I would have, had the situation been reversed). No, he didn't even say "I told you so." And we just ~~laughed~~ really we just smiled and went on---it really wasn't that funny still.

Nothing like crying over spilt milk! And aren't the hormones suppose to be worse after you have the baby?!

(and sorry for all the punctuation marks....I definitely got a little carried away. But, don't say anything to me about them because I MAY CRY....seriously!
